Every year I watch "It's A Wonderful Life" at Christmas. Each year I get a little more weepy. I have always wanted to to write a song about the movie, or Bedford Falls, the (fictional?) town in the film. This will always be one of my favorite songs I have written.
Goodnight Bedford Falls Copyright 2001 Damon Henrichs There’s an old man in his rocking chair Watching cars go by on the highway where The old main street used to be
He remembers a time not so long ago That kids would play in his yard full of snow Now there’s no one there He whispers to the air . . .
Goodnight Bedford Falls Goodnight Bedford Falls Memories of our past are the only things that last Goodnight Bedford Falls The movie house and general store Aren’t in business any more Since the new Wall-mart moved in across the street
A cookie cutter product line Replaced everything at the five and dime Now it’s all the same . . . But it’s all brand names Chorus Goodnight Gary, Goodnight Abilene Goodnight every town there’s ever been There’s an old man climbing into bed He tucks himself in with his quilt bedspread That his wife made, but she passed on years ago
The past is slowly wearing down Like lonely old men and sleepy ghost towns Picture perfect scenes Hidden in our dreams Chorus Picture perfect scenes are hidden in our dreams Goodnight Bedford Falls |
